Illinois AG pleased with restraining order in CDL suit
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul says he is pleased a federal judge granted a temporary restraining order to block the Trump administration from accessing a database containing the personal information of roughly 17 million commercial drivers.
The lawsuit filed by a coalition of more than 20 states claimed the federal government threatened to cut more than $10 million in federal funding to the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators if the organization does not provide the database.
CUB: Energy consumers lost millions to alternative supliers
The Citizens Utility Board says Commonwealth Edison and Ameren Illinois residential customers have lost a combined total of more than $206 million over the last year and more than $2.3 billion since 2015 to alternative electricity suppliers.
CUB advised consumers to check the supply section of their electric bills to compare rates.
Chicago HIV/AIDS diagnoses drop
Provisional data from the Chicago Department of Public Health indicates that HIV and AIDS diagnoses fell substantially in 2025, reaching their lowest levels since the early 1990s.
The data said Chicago had 504 new HIV diagnoses in 2025, 38% fewer than in 2024, and 236 new AIDS diagnoses, a 22% decline from the previous year.
More college students return
Monday is the first day of fall classes at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois.
Classes began on August 17 at Southern Illinois and Illinois State.
